We believe this is important because the human capital (your employees) of your organization is the only asset you have that:

  1. Appreciates over time. You pay your employees more over time because the more experience they have, the more valuable they are to you. You don’t want your competition to take them away. You invest in them with training and technology so that they become more productive on behalf of your organization.
  2. Is portable. Whether you like it or not, your employees can leave at any time. When they go, they take the skills and knowledge they have accumulated, at your expense, elsewhere—maybe even to your competitor.
